Heather McFarlin practices Chi Nei Tsang in San Francisco and San Rafael
bio

Heather has had a professional healing practice since 1997, connecting with people who are passionate about finding health and balance in their bodies and lives. She graduated from Alive & Well, Institute for Conscious Bodywork, in August of 1997 and has continued with ongoing research and studies in the field of bodywork and health. In 2002, Heather came across the modality of Chi Nei Tsang (Internal Organ Massage) and began her studies through the Healing Tao Institute and instructor Tiffany Fyans, as well Gilles Marin in Oakland. This age-old Taoist practice is one of the most effective and powerful she has come across. She became certified as a CNT practitioner in 2006 and began assisting classes and incorporating this work into her practice. The daily Chi Gong practices as well as the detoxification and cleansing programs required by the institute have impacted her life and work greatly. Heather has an avid Anusara Yoga practice and daily meditation practice, and loves all things related to Taoism.

Heather was born with a passion for all things healing...as well as artistic. She received a Minor in Painting and Drawing from Chico State University in 1993 (majoring in Religious Studies), and has continued to study with teachers in the Bay Area, like Larry Robinson at UC Berkeley extension, and the College of Marin to name a few. Although mostly studied in figure painting, she is currently exploring art as a sort of meditation, seeing what comes up when the mind is emptied and 'effort' is not being used. A sort of 'abstract expressionism' is the result. Her favorite art teacher once said something that still rings true: "If you're not having fun, you're not learning anything." Some of the most influential artists for her are Dali, Klimt and Duchamp.

"My teachings are easy to understand
and easy to put into practice.
Yet your intellect will never grasp them,
And if you try to practice them, you'll fail.

My teachings are older than the world.
How can you grasp their meaning?

If you want to know me,
Look inside your heart."
–Tao Te Ching, Translation by Stephen Mitchell
